Gansett Cruises

The Client

Gansett Cruises is a harbor and cruising company based in Newport, Rhode Island. Taking passengers aboard the M/V Gansett, they bring clients the best of local sights, sounds, and tastes.

The Objective

The company wanted to promote its harbor cruise packages to tourists visiting Newport, and also to nearby communities in Rhode Island and Southeastern Massachusetts. Additionally, PMC was asked to help Gansett Cruises promote online ticket sales through a new website.

THE Strategy

The PMC team took a three-pronged approach to building the Gansett brand. First, new-look print collateral (rack cards) and outdoor signage was created to promote the cruises. Next, a new, mobile-responsive website was developed that allowed users to purchase tickets online. The third step was to engage in social media management to create engagement and drive ticket sales.

THE OUTCOME

The emphasis on mobile-friendly development has reduced the website bounce rate by 8% from 2017 to 2018, while the social media effort has grown the Facebook audience by 11% from 2017 to 2018. The new rack cards and the outdoor signage has given the new branding outstanding exposure throughout the greater-Newport region.

Video Production

Utilizing the scenic beauty of the Rhode Island seascape and the experience of being aboard one of their ships, we helped this regional cruise operator grow their business significantly with a television advertisement. We incorporated Rhode Island novelties — Del’s Lemonade and Quahogs — into the piece to draw interest, and showed a wide range of user groups to drive home the play to the full range of possible users.
